Kate and Jay Like to Gossip:
Backyard Tire Fire
Usually, the Baltimore radio station WTMD brings us all kinds of goodness with regards to new bands, but recently, we hit the jackpot with Backyard Tire Fire, a band with bluesy folk rock cred. With a fan base that continues to grow and members that bring a cool sense of style back to alt-country/rock, Backyard Tire Fire will surely continue to be awesome with members Ed Anderson, Matt Anderson and Tim Kramp.
Songs to Check Out:
- “Good to Be” – check out a great live performance here.
- “Brady”
Make sure to see them perform live at the Black Cat on Thursday 4/15!

Mumford & Sons – This is How They Do It
Here at Spydercricket, we tend to like specific bands from the great United Kingdom that rock our world out of nowhere (we also call this “Jay has found his own little piece of gold in the music industry”). Mumford & Sons does that and more. A quality band from London, Mumford & Sons sticks to the arena of folk music with some country twang added in to make it interesting. Check them out and see what we mean. It also helps that they have a long history with Noah & The Whale, another Spydercricket favorite. And if you make it to the great state of Tennessee in June, see Mumford & Sons at Bonnaroo. Watch Mumford & Sons perform “Little Lion Man” on Late Show with David Letterman.

Metric: The Band We Heart Mucho
A Canadian indie rock band that Jay and Kate heart mucho? Really? Well, we found one, and it’s Metric. Featuring our girlfriend, Emily Haines, plus James Shaw, Josh Winstead, and Joules Scott-Key (one of the best names ever). With a new album out called Fantasies and lots of live performances (see links below), Metric takes you all over the place with their lyrics, their sounds, and their heart. We clearly heart them mucho.
